Lara is an interior designer based in Johannesburg, leading multiple residential projects from concept through to completion. Through her business, The Goodspace, she works closely with clients to create homes that balance beautiful design with practical, everyday living.

With offices in Bryanston and projects across Johannesburg, including many in Steyn City, Lara understands the value of building trust long before a client reaches out. Professional brand photography allows prospective clients to step behind the scenes, meet the team and gain a genuine sense of how The Goodspace brings each project to life.

For this latest personal branding photography session, Lara wanted to capture what she affectionately called the "messy middle" – the stage where ideas are becoming reality. Rather than focusing only on beautifully finished spaces, she wanted to document the process: site visits, conversations, decision-making and the people behind the work. Alongside this, we updated headshots for both existing and new team members, giving her a fresh library of images to use across her website and social media.

As this was our second shoot together, planning was wonderfully straightforward. We scheduled the session to coincide with her site visits and I created an inspiration board with ideas that would suit both the locations and the story she wanted to tell. Spending time planning beforehand always makes a shoot feel more relaxed, and by the time we arrived on site, I felt less like an outsider with a camera and more like part of the team for the day.

The team coordinated their own outfits to keep everything authentic to who they are, and because we wanted to capture real working environments, there was no need for wardrobe changes or elaborate styling. I relied mostly on natural light throughout the day, allowing the photographs to feel honest, warm and true to the atmosphere of each site.

One of the things I loved most about this shoot was its realness. While the finished interiors are undoubtedly beautiful, Lara understands that trust isn't only built by showing polished results. It's built by inviting people into the journey – the conversations, the planning, the dusty construction sites, the teamwork and the countless decisions that happen before a home is complete.

These images are now being used throughout The Goodspace's website to introduce Lara and her team to prospective clients, while also giving her social media manager a versatile collection of professional imagery to keep her online presence consistent and engaging.

For me, the highlight of this project was celebrating the mess. It's so easy to believe we should only share the finished product, but people connect with the story behind the success. That's where relationships begin, and that's what thoughtful personal branding photography is all about. Working with Lara is always a pleasure because there's complete trust in the process, allowing us to work together naturally and create images that genuinely reflect her business.

Every business has a different story to tell. Whether it's a founder building a personal brand, an interior designer inviting clients behind the scenes, or a growing product business preparing for launch, the goal is always the same: to create imagery that genuinely reflects the business and supports its growth. That's exactly what thoughtful brand and product photography is designed to do.
